The spectacle of the King’s coronation.
The contrast between the media experience and the actuality of being in the location of the event “live”. Without television or other media, many people would not have ‘seen’ the event. ‘Seen’ in the sense that no one person will see the event in its totality and understand every element. As I stood amongst the crowd, surrounded by backdrops and barriers, there was a sense of anticipation. Time seemed to drag on without any noteworthy happenings. Boredom lingered, and people resorted to drinking, moving around, talking, and forming queues. The reality of the spectacle and its depiction in the media are to be experienced entirely differently.
